ÕÉÏRGOS KARAVERGOS
KIRLIAN PHOTOGRAPHY

Apogeio Gallery

"The first thing that comes into one's mind at a reference to Kirlian photography is the "aura" of the objects photographed.

This is a ring that like a halo seems to surround the subjects animate and inanimate and which, in most cases, is connected with the unconfirmed existence of an unknown vis vitalis, immaterial and unlike the familiar forces described by the physical sciences. The method is also known, for obvious reasons, as kirlianophotography or auro-photography or electrography, while relatively recently the terms bioelectrography and gas discharge visualisation have also been introduced.

Yiorgos Karavergos was initially drawn to the Kirlian technique through his love for photography. He approached, and approaches, aurophotography, as he prefers to call it, as an art photographer. Of course, his professional training and expertise as an electrician have certainly helped him resolve the technical problems of design and construction of the appropriate apparatus, especially in a period when ready-made instruments were not available on the market. But his desire to create artistic photographs was what drove him most strongly. Of course, his curiosity about and interest in the unknown cannot but have been contributing factors in his efforts".
