Erasmus Schroeter
BUNKERS
ORGANISED BY THE GOETHE INSTITUTE
MACEDONIAN MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
The photographs of Erasmus Schroeter (Germany, 1956) transform reality, not thanks to the application of Photoshop, but by means of direct intervention. The subject of his series Bunkers is the chain of ruined fortifications which made up Hitler's Atlantic Wall, but the images make the special effects of Star Wars look tame: literally painting his subjects with thousands of watts of coloured light, Schroeter transforms these grim monuments into strange futuristic constructs, spaceships stranded on the shores of another Earth.
