Tassos Schizas
MEMORIES OF THE UNDERWORLD
DOMOS BOOKSTORE-GALLERY
The photographs of Tassos Schizas (Greece,1964) depict an alternate reality, a world of intense light and shadow, where strange objects suddenly loom inexplicably before us, in which scale and distance become hopelessly confused, and the slightest visual trace seems full of portent. Underworld reminds us, more than anything else, of those hallucinatory photographs of the moon's surface brought back by the NASA missions, but this landscape is in fact that of the bottom of the sea, for Schizas a source of "magical imagery" since early childhood.
