Stelios Efstathopoulos
HYPOTHETICAL LANDSCAPES GENERATED BY HOPE
PARATIRITIS BOOKSTORE / GALLERY

According to Borges, hronir are secondary reflections or duplicates of objects produced by distraction and forgetfulness; sometimes, however, Tlon sees the appearance of the ur - "the thing produced by suggestion, the object generated by hope". For Stelios Efstathopoulos (Greece, 1956), the subject of these images is the way space is changed by light and movement through the distortions of a home-made camera. "Time", he notes, "is indeterminate from one instant to the next; perhaps the ur is to be found in the intervals between such instants".
