The Sections of Mark Hadjipateras (USA, 1953) are made up of what the artist has called "building blocks for adults"; cut from a circle inside a square of white styrofoam, these archetypal shapes are photographed in various arrangements, some random, others highly contrived. The results, further modified by the photographic process through variations in focal length, lighting and toning, look like architectural fantasies: monumental ruins or cities of the future, Atlantis or Alphaville.
