The simple recording, for a "souvenir", of some happy conjuncture: a meeting between people, or an event that we want for some reason to remember, recapturing the moment that gave it birth through the medium of a photographic document. Souvenirs of this sort from the early Photosynkyrias are largely lacking: apparently, we were not then aware of their importance. But as the event grew and developed into a recurring "institution", the number of people involved multiplied, and so did the snapshots. Anyone who has a catalogue from one of the recent Photosynkyrias will have seen displayed on the inner covers souvenir snapshots of the previous year's event, as they are in this edition as well. But for our tenth anniversary celebration this year we decided to sift through our files and put together out of the vast mass of documents an exhibition of as many of the souvenir photographs as the walls of De Facto, Thessaloniki's oldest photo-bar, can possibly hold. Many of you will discover memories, some will find their own faces, while here, too, of course, are so many of the outstanding figures from the world of photography that have passed through Thessaloniki during the course of the past ten years.
