THEODORE HOURMOUZIADIS
PALM TREES
AAS GALLERY
Pictorially, palm trees are stereotypes with specific references. Their presence in a photographic view is usually associated with warm climates, exotic countries and holidays. Their foliage is bright green, usually surrounded by a deep blue sky and a turquoise sea. However, the palm trees photographed by Theodore Hourmouziadis do not resemble these images. They are black and white, old, neglected remains in barren landscapes. At times, these palm trees appear as ghosts in a veil of grey obscurity. However, they retain the glory of their "image" of older times, when, as symbols of culture and economic prosperity, they grew in home gardens, along coast roads or in the open spaces around factories. Theodore Houmouziadis photographs them obviously charmed by the persistence, with which the stand up to the demolition of old buildings and the modernization of the landscape.
